GGNRA Earth Month
Staff Challenge 2019
How to Participate in the Staff Challenge
There are several ways to participate in the Earth Month Staff Challenge, and several fun prizes for participation.

Individual Participation:

Individual NPS/Conservancy staff can submit an idea or action that they have taken to make the park more sustainable. This can be an easy win or a more challenging long-term project, as long as you can show that you've thought through how it can be implemented in the park and how you can be part of the implementation.

Review the submittal form at the beginning of the month to gather ideas, then submit your proposal or action by May 3. Submissions can be made online (preferred) or via hardcopy.

Team Participation:

NPS/Conservancy staff are encouraged to create or join a team and come up with an idea or action to make the park more sustainable. This can be an easy win or a more challenging long-term project, as long as you can show that you've thought through how it can be implemented in the park and how your team can be part of the implementation.

Review the submittal form at the beginning of the month to gather ideas, then submit your proposal or action by May 3. Submissions can be made online (preferred) or via hardcopy.

Note that for both individuals and teams you can submit any action that you took in 2019.

Motivation!

Everyone who participates in the Staff Challenge will be eligible for recognition in two ways:

1. Drawing for fun prizes

Everyone who submits an entry or attends an event will be entered into a drawing just for participating. The Grand Prize will be a fun and unique park experience (see below) with many additional smaller prizes.
You will be given a different number of entries based on the following criteria:
- Individual proposal, describing an idea or action that benefits 1-5 people: 1 entry
- Individual proposal, describing an idea or action that benefits 6 or more people: 3 entries
- Individual attendance at Earth Month Events (Tea Times, etc): 5 entries per event
- Team proposal of any kind, whether an idea, proposal, or documented action: 10 entries per team member
- Team proposal that documents an action already taken: Extra 10 entries per team member

2. Award for Top Proposal in Energy, Transportation, and Waste Categories

In addition to everyone being entered into the drawing, the proposals will be evaluated by the Green Team on how much the proposal will benefit the park's sustainability. Winners in each of the three categories (whether individual or team) will be rewarded with a fun and unique park experience (see below).

Proposals will be evaluated with the following criteria:
- How many sustainability benefits does this idea or action have (bonus for benefits to economics, employee morale, etc)?
- What is the scale of the benefit (individual, work location, division, whole park)?
- How long will be benefits last (short, medium, or long-term)?
- How feasible is this proposal at Golden Gate?
- How well does the proposal describe the participation of the individual or team that submitted it?
